Aim
The International Co-operative Day
Its aim is to increase awareness on co-operatives and promote the movement's successes and ideals of international solidarity, economic efficiency, equality, and world peace.

The International Day also aims at strengthening and extend partnerships between the international co-operative movement and other actors, including governments, at local, national and international levels.

Tanzania and the global downturn

The World Economic Downturn which is wobbling the whole world would inevitably also have a profound effect on Tanzania's economy as other nations are. Tanzania is largely still an agrarian economy that produces food crops and little cash crops largely coffee, cotton, cashew nuts, tea, sisal, tobacco, and horticulture crops mainly flowers for export.
Naturally and automatically agriculture is definitely feeling the effect of the Global Economic Recession and these effect are already manifesting.

With Agriculture Co-operatives will help to drive the global economic recovery The co-operative and agricultural community has reviewed the position of the sector and revealed three main effects

It has provided very serious and significant opportunities for the sector and for our country if immediate actions are taken and implemented.
It is causing a lot of concern for especially export oriented farmers, livestock keepers and fishermen.
It has risen a concern to the police makers over creations of home markets for the agricultural products rather than external markets and realisations of the cooperative sector and the recovery of the economic recessions.

Together with the ICA theme, Tanzania has its mission to fulfill in the 2009 International Day of Co-operative. During the anniversary co-operative societies will show how they perform through the adherence of the Cooperative Reforms and Modernization Program (CRMP). This include showing:

How cooperative societies implement the CRMP  within their societies.

Primary, Union and Apex Co-operatives societies make exhibitions in the manner of maturity on leadership, business like and total independence.
How Cooperative Societies implements the CRMP Showing financial discipline.
